Let’s start with the obvious…Monday is typically not everyone’s favorite day. For most of us, it’s back to the grind at our 9-5 jobs for the next 5 days. We are tired. We are heavily caffeinated. We are already counting down the minutes until Friday…So how do we make Monday’s feel a little less “ugh” ?!
First things first…you woke up and you are ALIVE! That’s totally something to celebrate. I know Negative Nancy over there is rolling her eyes right now, but stay with me! So it’s definitely easier to look at your Monday and feel a sense of grief. There’s all of these funny memes all over Facebook EVERY Sunday night that are all reminding you of the inevitable: The weekend is over and it is time to wake up at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning… and be an adult. Bleh. But here’s the thing: It’s literally imprinted into your brain to hate Monday’s. You don’t have to give them such a bad rep just because the social norm says you should.
First thing first, we need to change our mindsets. We’re going to train our brains to think differently. I read something somewhere that really spoke to me.
Instead of saying “I have to go to work, I have to go to school, I have to etc.” …Start saying “I get to.”
See, if we train our minds to think positively and practice having gratitude…the whole game changes! I GET TO wake up today and go to work. I GET TO have the chance to be a better person than I was yesterday. I GET TO go to school to further my education for my future. The list goes on and on.
Other things you can do to make your Monday a little less scary is to make sure you prepare for your week on Sunday night. Write down your intentions and goals for the upcoming week so you can refer back to it for guidance. Wake up early and have your coffee/tea and throw on a positive podcast!
Folks, the name of the game here is to stop taking your life for granted! Start to practice gratitude over the little things and see how much of a difference that makes in your attitude. Some people didn’t get to wake up today and have the chance to do things that YOU are dreading. Some people would kill to have the Monday you are experiencing right now. Don’t waste your life waiting for the weekend. I know it’s cliche but every single day you wake up is truly a gift. Happy Monday! Until next time.
